Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Northern Rivers Cycling ClubRous, NSW, April 10, 2005The Northern Rivers Cycling Club has commenced its second winter road racing season, the first time road cycling races have been held regularly on the North Coast since the Lismore Cyling Club folded some years ago. Thirty four riders turned out on a beautiful autumn morning last Sunday to contest our first road race of the season, with around twenty spectators watching the event on the 11km circuit. All grades were well supported with the exception of A grade. I suspect we'll see more A grade riders as soon as they hear what quality racing we have to offer. The half price day licences (only $10) are proving popular and we were glad to welcome quite a few new starters. A number of riders moving up into a higher grades also made for interesting racing. Peter Fairfull won B grade in the sprint once again, and I'm sure our handicapper will consider promoting him to A grade. Rod Bailey returned to Alstonville and showed good form to take second place. Our leading junior, Tim Harris, proved his worth by winning C grade in his second start at this level. North Coast Academy riders Shane Russell & Adam Chakos finished strongly to take second and third in their first outing in this grade. The youngster of the Academy squad, Brendan Cole, rode well to win D grade. If he keeps up the strong performances I expect we'll see him in C grade very shortly too. I wasn't suprised to see Lynn Hopkinson amongst the winners on her maiden outing. She is a very strong rider and one I hope we'll see more of. Many thanks to all our helpers - we couldn't have done it without you David Cole, Gary Creighton, Tim Davis, Gina and Hal Holley, Donna Russell and Keith Stratton. Our second road race of the winter season will be Sunday the 17th April at Rous School, Rous. 6.30 sign-on for a 7.00 am race start Take Wardell Rd from Alstonville and turn first right after the House with No Steps. You'll see the school on your right after a couple of klms.
