Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Warragul Cycling ClubSeptember 11, 2004WCC awash with actionBy Monique Henley The chance to test out the highly anticipated Old Sale Road circuit was put on hold on Saturday as heavy rain caused the cancellation of the local race meet. The Old Sale Road course tests the strengths of all riders with long climbs, false flats and technical descents, and is considered an exciting circuit by local racers. The true test for the course will now have to wait for another four weeks when the next Old Sale Road scratch race is scheduled for October 9th. Next week's race will be held at Buln Buln, opposite the Primary School from 2pm. Despite the washout, the cycling club has been busy developing initiatives for non-competitive riders and juniors. As a result, the newly formed recreational arm of the club and the junior track season will launch their opening days on October 3rd at the Warragul Velodrome. The recreational group intends to host ongoing organised social rides catering to a wide variety of cycling abilities. The group aims to provide an opportunity to increase social riding networks in the area and to enhance rider skills and confidence. The launch will commence at 10:30am with the opportunity for new membership signup and a general information session. Recreational group members will be able to purchase a 2005 'RideIt' licence, enabling them to participate in Warragul Cycling Club recreational ride and other social events. CycleSport Victoria will be present on the day to support this new initiative. Regular members of the Warragul Cycling Club will also be on-hand to provide support, general cycling tips and assistance with bike set up. Following registration, the group will commence a relaxed ride catering for three different cycling abilities. All riding routes will include a coffee stop and the chance to discuss a future ride and social event calendar. Further information is available from the Warragul Cyling Club website www.warragulcyclingclub.org.au or Roy Hammond on 5622 0919. The summer junior track program will commence with an open day also on Sunday the 3rd October from 10:30am. The day will provide an opportunity for riders to emulate the success of the Australian track team at the Olympics. Future stars are encouraged to head down to the Velodrome to test their nerve on special bikes used solely for track purposes. Following the junior program launch, weekly Tuesday night training sessions will commence from 6.00pm. All interested cyclists are encouraged to contact the club via Bike Land at 5623 2398.
