The heat was on

Hinchinbrook's Lius Arias stole a win fom Lidcome-Auburn rider Trent Butler with Illawarra's Steve Franklin taking third in A-grade in the Illawarra Cycle Club weekly club race last Sunday. Thirty nine riders battled the heat over three grades. Although the summer races are generally only 45 minutes to one hour in duration, racing in hot conditions is still very taxing. No one in any of the three grades was able to establish a breakaway nor did they have to retire for any reason.

With five riders visiting from Lidcome-Auburn, Hinchinbrook and Macarthur clubs, it was a case of locking away the good silverware.

B-grade was another hard fought battle. Tony Sampson outsprinted the field with plenty to spare with Joe Pereira just squeezing out Lionel Covington for second. C-grade was a fast event with a few more capable riders just visiting. Again, no-one was able to get away. Wayne Crouch outgunned Joe Chiaverini on the line to take first as Mitch Harris took a deserved third place, having done a lot of work on the front.

Next week is an 18 km time trial with group 5 marshalling. Marshalls should ensure that their group has at least one car between them to carry signs.
