Moriarty takes Founders Day trophy in style

Peter Moriarty announced his stalwart prowess as a rider with a superior breakaway win in this weekend Founders Day Handicap over a demanding circuit through Kangarilla and Bakers Gully. Moriarty was helped for most of the ride by triple Australian Veterans gold medallist Carolyn Dangerfield who was sadly caught before the line by a very potent chasing pack that had formed in the final stages of the race. Moriarty has now claimed two victories with the club since starting late in the year. His last victory was in E grade in a club scratch event in August. On the strength of this ride he has made considerable improvement and may suffer the wrath of the handicapper before his next start.

State and Club Road Race Champion in age category three Norman Hoy made a welcome return to the result list with a well earned second place fighting his way through the field after starting on two minutes. Hoy now has six major results this year with the Vets. Hoy was the strongest on the line in the bunched sprint after Moriarty had crossed earlier on his own. Hoy led home a large pack and took the honours on the line ahead of a very well credentialed field.

Another club road race champion in age category four Syd Carter took third after starting on the chopping block a minute and a half behind Hoy. Carter has recently returned from a very successful Australian Championships in Tasmania. This was his first success in a handicap event this year and his fourth major result with the club.

Patrick Houweling followed up his recent successful fifth place in division one at Victor Harbor in the Barry Smith Memorial event with an impressive sprint to take fourth today.

New rider Steve Buck added to his fourth at the Bicycle Express Open at Mount Compass to claim an impressive fifth in very strong company. The hard working scratchman James Russell picked up yet another fastest time award.
