Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Southern Tasmanian Veteran Cycling ClubOatlands to Richmond Handicap, November 6, 2004Roper and Frost in dead heatBy Stephen Bray After 77K's of riding Clive Roper from Hobart and David Frost from Launceston could not be separated in Southern Tasmania's premier veteran cycling event. Hosted by the STVCC and sponsored by Ray Appleby Cycles, the Oatlands to Richmond Handicap attracted a field of 37 riders from all over the state as well as two South Australians. Roper and Frost lead off the field and were strong enough to a stay away from the chasing groups. Despite modern technology, 30 odd spectators as well as asking the riders, it was impossible to separate the two at the line. The third member of the starting group, Christine Neil, fell off the pace in the hills near the finish but was still able to take third by a mere 30 seconds from the group, lead in by Dale Carney, which started from the 22 minute mark. The A Graders starting on a handicap of 45 minutes, which included fastest time winner Mark Bowden, tried hard all day (average 40kph) but could not get to the front markers. At the presentations it was discussed on how to decide who should take out the prize, such as a re-race from Oatlands, however both riders graciously accepted the dead heat result.
