Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Port Fairy CCMay 22, 2004By David Tozer Local cyclists are becoming very experienced riding and racing in windy conditions lately. Saturday was no exception. Twenty-five keen riders lined up for the 30kms out-and-back course. The 15kms of side-head wind challenged riders for the first half of the race. However most bunches combined well working as teams. The 9-minute bunch quickly picked up the 10-minute trio of David Rae, Lou McLaren and John Jenkins. Creating a strong group led by Gerard Faulkner. Shortly after the turn around they were joined by Peta Maher, Josh Cook and John Blair. Although the back markers had the numbers, the strong tail wind favoured the middle groups. Riders made the most of it, travelling at very high speeds. Lyn McConnell and Hilda Cook combined well together, however could not hold off the chasing groups. In a close sprint to the line Gerard Faulkner edged out David Rae and John Blair. Peta Maher continued her good form to finish fourth ahead of Josh Cook and Kate Winnen. With John Jenkins finishing in seventh spot. Chris West and Peter Rauert finished just a head of the scratchmen. Mark Winnen finished tenth and took out fastest time. Club members enjoyed a social evening on Saturday night, where the club championship sashes from 2003 were presented. There will be a club race on Saturday 29th of May at 2.00pm. The cycling club always welcomes new riders. The handicap system is designed to give riders of any ability a chance to win. Early entries can be sent via SMS to 0438 614 557 or entries can be placed on the day by being at the Port Fairy Showgrounds prior to 1.45pm. A general meeting will be held after the race.
