Jose Rodriguez (Easts/FRF Couriers) won round 11 in commanding style last night and also secured an unbeatable lead in the 2004 Trek Bikes Summer Series. Rodriguez, who has been the form rider all summer, takes a 13 point lead into next weeks last round and can't wait to claim the first prize of a Trek 5500 Carbon OCLV valued at A$3,000.

Sydney continues to benefit from a late surge of summer weather and racing was again conducted in warm and as usual, windy conditions. With only seven points separating the top three places in the Series pointscore it was imperative that A grade caught the B and C grade bunches early for Rodriguez to have a chance of staying in front of his rivals, David Whyman (14 pts) and Matt Lucas (13pts).

After the first five laps it was obvious the race was going to come together early and the B and C grade bunches almost slowed down to wait for the inevitable. Perhaps A grade benefited from the assistance of having newly promoted Dave Whyman in their ranks? Brad Mills was also there to boost the horsepower and even he was lost for words during the opening laps.

The B grade sprint primes didn't seem to generate much interest with Matt Lucas's 15 point margin over clubmate Jerzy Sowa ensuring he will be going home next week with the first prize of a Shimano Dura Ace Wheelset.

Five laps to go and it was altogether for the finale. The A grade big motors were content to drive the pace with mountain biker Paul Rowney and Stuart Dangerfield both having a go at stretching the echelon to its limits.

In the gallop, it was Rodriguez who decided to lead it out and the move paid off as he held out a fast finishing Liam Kelly who was back on the podium in only his second race back from injury. Kieran Cameron capped off a good night's racing with third and B grade rider Jerzy Sowa just nudged out Stewart Campbell for fourth.

Matt Lucas continued his recent run off impressive finishes by getting the envelope for the first unplaced B grade rider.

In the C grade pointscore Southern Cross juniors Chris Guillan and Keegan Atchinson repeated last weeks placings with Atchinson now wrapping up the C grade Series.

Although the main places in this years Series have been determined the after race beers courtesy of Frank Conceicao will no doubt ensure the last race of the season is well attended, so come and have a beer with Frank next Tuesday to celebrate the finale of another summer of racing at Sydney's Heffron Park.
