Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Port Fairy Cycling Club Road RaceJune 5, 2004Edwards wins - again!By Kate Winnen Thanks to several eager volunteers the club race was held over a 35km circuit on Saturday 5th June. To successfully stage a circuit race the club requires marshals at each intersection plus a lead and rear vehicle. Cyclists enjoy a change to the regular out and back course. Approximately twenty riders lined up. Jill Edwards and Walter Paton rode off on the 15.00-minute mark, and were able to lead from start to finish. It was always going to be a difficult task. However Wal and Jill worked extremely well together, holding off the rest of the field. Jill proving too fast for Wal in the dash to the line. Behind them the scratch men, including last week's fastest time winner Tony Hose and Chris Carr, quickly accounted for the 3.00-minute group. The back markers overtook the rest of the field. However again this week the out markers made the most of a tail wind during the final kilometers. The majority of the field finished within minutes of the leaders. Chris Carr out-sprinted the main chasing group to claim over all third place and fastest time. Jill chalked up yet another win this year. Which must place her as a firm favorite for the club's road aggregate. Finishing in second place, Wal Paton praised Jill's efforts throughout the race. Other club newsOn Sunday several Port Fairy and Warrnambool cyclists traveled to Casterton for the 64km inter-club event. Port Fairy Cycling Club scored a rare double with Andy Graham finishing first and fastest with David Tozer finishing second. Andy rode a highly aggressive race, breaking away in the closing kilometers. David had the strength to bridge the gap across to Andy before the finish line in Casterton's main street. Warrnambool cyclists Darren Harris and Mark Hyland finished in the top ten. If Darren's consistent results continue he may be able to take out the South West Series aggregate. Peta Maher continued her impressive form to finish first female, only a few minutes behind the winners. The next club race will be on Saturday 12th of June, 2.00pm at the Showgrounds. The next South West Series race is the Hamilton to Port Fairy 80km event. Hosted by the Port Fairy Cycling Club. On the social scene the club is running a rotating dinner on Saturday July 17th.
