The event was a graded scratch race with five divisions over a local circuit course through Douglass Gully and Blewitt Springs. A and B Grades had five laps, C and D Grade four and E grade three. The 11km course was a good mix of climbs and descents. A grade was a tight struggle to the line with the pack staying together for the five laps. Brent Telford was the strongest in the sprint breaking through for his second victory for 2004 after claiming category one in the Club Time trial championship in March. He has some very competent opposition and looks like a future club champion when the field he took on is considered. Following him to the line was Commonwealth Silver Medalist John Watters for his fourth result of the year. He three other results have all been victories so Telfords effort looks even more impressive. James Russell took a pleasing third to take his yearly tally to four well short of his record tally of twenty two last year. B grade saw the return of Theo Nicholas for his first result with the club since 2002. His victory was a difficult one with new rider Baden Brosnan challenging on the line. The consistent Greg Berryman claimed third from Andrew Coombe and Justin Dawson. Fhillipo Immesi took his first result for the year in taking victory in C Grade. He held out a fast finishing Marcus Roberts and club leading rider Gavin McMahon on the line. Geoff Bate continues his improvement to take fourth. Neal Teasdale showed a turn of style to win his first victory and claim his third result in three weeks with the club. A very impressive start with his two other results being two second places. Paul Weatherall turned up the dial and took his second result in as many weeks to claim second from Terry Proctor who finished strongly on his own but just missed making up the ground. Angelo Guidolin and Dave Symmonds finished well claiming the other major places. E Grade was a run away win to Peter Field after the pack shattered on the first climb out of Douglass Gully. Field now has two victories with the club after winning in January this year. Trudy Fenton showed her strength on the hills to take a well earned second from a returning to form Jim Mc Cluskey and improving Mary Callahan.
