Early attack pays off again

By Rod Hartridge

Four riders used the first of the many coastal hills to escape the bunch in this hard but very scenic 85km race around southern Tasmania. In good form after the recent national championships, Caleb Manion and Jai Crawford in company with Kharne Hammersley and the experienced Matt Rice, gained time over the three main climbs to finish over five minutes ahead, with Matt taking out the win. An attack by Josh Wilson caught the chase group by surprise in Snug, Steve Rossendale then joined up and pipped a tired Kharne on the line for fourth place.
