Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Mildura-Coomealla Cycling ClubJanuary 25, 2004Busch too strong in A GradeBy Peter Winton Twenty-one riders, including Adelaide visitor, Pep Piscioneri, contested the 3 grades on Sunday. Several members saw fit to be at the JCTDU for the weekend to draw inspiration and sneak in some secret training, otherwise it was a near "full house". Perfect conditions were experienced in Sunraysia with sunny skies, relative humidity of 53%, light south, south easterly of 17 kms/hr and a temperature of 18 degrees at 9:00am. Six riders in C grade set off for the 4 lapper shortly before 9am, Greg Scott, Robyn Doyle, Jeff Mitchell, Pep Piscioneri, Rob Akkermans and Bob Pedler. Robyn Doyle the first to slip off the back during the first lap. Piscioneri proved up to the task to take the win from Akkermans and Greg Scott in third. The "killer bees" followed 5 minutes after the C grade start and soon settled into a "roll-over" groove. Before too long at least 5 riders had trotted off the front for a little "feeler" with the bunch slowly winding each of them back in turn. Giles and Beruldsen causing the most reaction amongst their colleagues. Pollock also made his presence felt with numerous little attacks in the latter half of the race. The 11 rider bunch however stayed together and it wasn't until Winton punctured at the 42km mark that the group suffered any losses. In the final kilometre it was Scott Giles taking up the attack chased by Ian Beruldsen. Both riders had cleared a small break with Brendan Liddle trailing them up the finishing hill. Beruldsen took the lead and held off Giles, although tiring on the line. Liddle in third place. The A grade blokes had a tight little bunch of 4 today, with Mark Busch, Kevin Tankard, Rob McNally and (commander in Chief of Air Force One) Peter Mulhearn. Buschy proving too quick for Tanks and McNally in third. Mully was probably weighed down by all the Gatorade bottles he snaffled from Coles during the week. Fair dinkum, how much does one rider need? Talk about the 1970's oil crisis, it's a 2004 Gatorade crisis in Mildura. Not to mention the raid he makes on the Endura products. He needs to get married so hasn't got so much money at his disposal. This Tuesday is a 16km time-trial and lucky Harry Robbins won't be there (vintage at Beringer-Blass beckons!)
