The pace was controlled for all the lower grades and they all completed their times with bunch sprints. In E grade Shane Kelly had a fierce sprint against Julian Trudringer from their very small bunch and then D grade rider Andrew Fon had a similar tussle with experienced Ian Taylor. Fon is looking like a rider with a lot of potential for the future. In C Grade Josh Smith had an easy win over new rider Michael Lampp who has shown he also likes a sprint. Brad Simpson and Pat Bruce had both been moved from A to B grade and it showed by the way they dominated the B grade race with Simpson breaking away to take the win whilst Bruce controlled the pace and won the bunch sprint. A grade was a race of controversy with 9 riders making a break away early into the race. The bunch was not willing or organised to make a chase and the break had the race won. Then seven of the nine riders made a foolish and deadly move by passing a truck on the inside as it was turning left at a corner in the finishing straight. Next they chose to disobey the directive of a commissaire and were disqualified from the race. Most of those riders continued to race adding more confusion when they rejoined the main field again. The sprint was held and the race completed and the disqualified riders taken out of the placings.
