Busch blasts to another

The coastal gales reported by David Tozer in the Port Fairy CC write-up earlier this week found their way to Mildura on Tuesday. Yeah, okay, they lost a bit of their zing over the 600km trip up here but hey, it always happens to us on Tuesdays.

Eighteen persistent little buggers (well some not so little) paraded their shiny bikes and shaved legs at 6:00pm on Tuesday along the smooth bitch-of-mine in Dolfen Drive, Mildura. Not a bad turn out really and we still had 14 clubbies not fronting! We are nearly gonna need a Vicroads permit if all these members do a John Lennon and "Come Together". On second thoughts that might be a public display worthy of a blue movie, hmmm? [Ew! - Ed]

In a massed start, which certainly ruins my chances of hanging on at the moment, all 3 grades took off in a unanimous "neutral lap". Well, we all know about these neutral laps don't we. Ever been dropped in the neutral zone?

It certainly allows the stronger B grade dudes to get a break on their speed and stamina challenged "mates". Not to mention the emotional distraught C grade goers.

Anyway, with Jack Lokan claiming first corner honors it was on. Next to claim an early recognition for being out the front was Adam Wightwick. I thought it was clever being down the back with Scott Giles and Errol Schmidt until they had enough of the warm-up and made moves to the "pointy end".

Snap, crackle and pop and they started to react like winter flowers in late spring, i.e. "dying". Wightwick and Kristen Cerini chose marshalling duties and judging as alternative ways to spend the remaining 15 minutes of the show. And my apologies to Greg Scott who didn't fade to the kerbside on Sunday, rather he had a drivetrain problem and wasn't able to continue. Scotty stuck to the task and hooked in with Peter Doody (resplendent in light Irish green strip) and Winton as they pretended they could catch some one, anyone?

One blatantly obvious situation re-emerged at the conclusion of this sweat-fest and that is a chasm has opened up between the better killer bees and their not so good anymore colleagues. Jack Lokan claims ownership of that revelation and together we may start our own grade. Anyone can join as long as we can win ONE per season.

My predictions:

1 Iban Mayo to beat the 5 time winner in the TdF (I didn't say win the Tour)

2 At least 2 M-CCC riders to go into the A Team

3 Summer to return Victoria in late February
