Giles sprints on

John Giles continued his exceptional year with the Southern Vets with an inspiring sprint win in A Grade in the weekends Club Event. Giles has taken a strong grip on the racing results table and may well now replace James Russell as the clubs leading rider this year. Russell had marshalling duties this weekend and was not in the field but is running out of events to make up ground on the in form Giles.

Giles leads the field with twelve major results this year. The effort is even more remarkable given that ten of these have come since late May when he took the victory in the Milang crits.

Second place again went to Paul Bell with his eighth major result for the season matching his 2003 best ever tally with the club.

B Grade was a maiden club victory to Michele Primado following up his exceptional first result of second in the Twin Peaks Handicap only two weeks ago. Given this form he will be riding in A Grade in future events.

Geoff Bate continues his consistent season taking victory in C Grade. He now has eight major results to his name and two victories in scratch events his previous in D Grade. On this form he may well be ready to move up again. He had a good distance on the field on the line leading home Neil Teasedale and new rider Sandy Shearer.

In D Grade another new rider Melinda Woods showed her talent taking on an experienced field and showing an excellent turn of speed at the sprint. She held out a fast finishing David Cox and Paul Broadley who recorded his first result with the club. Cox is showing an improvement on his earlier years with his tally of two now matching his best of his three years with the club.

E Grade had more new talent on show with a first up win to Peter Moriaty. He was able to hold out the experienced Jim Mcluskey and another new name Don Taylor in the sprint for the line
