Twenty-eight Randwick Botany Cycling Club members traveled to Eastern Creek, west of Sydney, for a 20 kilometre individual time trial. Eastern Creek International Raceway is operated by ARDC and usually caters for motor sport competition, driver education and motor shows. The challenging 3.43km circuit is built to international motor sport standards. V8 Supercars reach speeds up to 260 km/h on the main straight and take turn 1 at 200 km/h. The Randwick Botany club cyclists reached a shade over 60kph on the main straight. The smooth hot-mix bitumen surface that flows through landscaped hills provided an ideal cycling surface in 'sterile' and safe conditions, with no other vehicles on the circuit. The time trial was conducted from 7.00am until 9.00am. Motorised vehicles do not usually race on the circuit before 9.00am. After the Randwick Botany Club Time-Trial, Moto Concepts Australia conducted a Race Day for motorbikes, from 125cc up to over 1000cc capacity. The Randwick Botany Cycling Club hopes to use the venue again in the future for club championship events.
