International pros return to Burleigh world's

Today's race saw the return of some of our International Pros with Sara Carrigan, Jason Phillips, Robbie McEwen and Nick Gates all turning up at Burleigh. Spectating only, however, was the choice for Sara and Robbie. World Championship medalists, Danny Clark, Freddie Mason and Werner Rogosenski rounded out the classy field which, as usual, included a generous sprinkling of National and State medalists.

National U 17 Time Trial Champion, Todd Dawson tried to set a cracking early pace to out gun the guns but the strength and class of the A Grade field was against him. Danny Clark rode away from the bunch and, with the threat of again being lapped by an "almost geriatric", the bunch got its act together and hauled back the breakaway. In the end. Clarkie won easily with Bobby Phillips out-sprinting the best of the rest.

In B Grade, steady improvers, Rod Brewster and Mick Follett fought it out with Pete Evans while in D Grade, father and son duo, Eric and Lee Hall got the quinella. Grant Byers who is, at last, getting his finishing technique worked out looks set to continue to cause anguish to the rest of the field when he attacks on the last lap.

In C Grade, Ironman Mark Aldous used his strength and experience to good advantage to break up the field with an unrelenting strong pace. Trevor Gordon and Werner Rogosenski were the only riders able to hold him and, at the finish, he rode away from them to come home a clear winner. Trevor outsprinted Werner in a close sprint for the minor placings.
