Dubbo Cycling Officials very happy to see the Round go ahead after it was the first event to be stopped in NSW, during the recent halt to bicycling road racing in the state. The re scheduled event seen Dubbo move closer to the defending champions Bathurst in the Champion Club Title, the Dubbo club having 3 cyclists finishing in the top 4, (with father and son combination Darryl and Raymond Wheeler coming in behind Peadon and Windsor). However Bathurst still holds a commanding lead in the Series Pointscore on 72 points, with Dubbo on 32 points, and Orange in third in front of Mudgee. The 54 kilometre handicap event was run in tough windy conditions, which didn't favour the front markers who found it difficult to hold off the fast moving back markers. Early leaders Mark Gallagher and Rosemary Hastings quickly joined by the 15min group which contained young guns Sean Dunn and Joel Hedge (Dubbo), Blair Windsor (Bathurst), and Tim Guy (Orange), helped by the experience of Master's Champ Pat O'Brien (Mugdee). They soon where caught by the strong 8 minute group lead by Handicap Championship leader Bruce Goddard, who with former series winner Tony Hogan and hard working Phil Van Gent of Mudgee looked some chance of holding on for victory. However, it was the very well performed 4 minute group lead by Daryl Wheeler & Graeme Peadon (Dubbo) and Glen McGill and Mark Windsor (Bathurst), that where moving quickly through the field, catching and dropping a number of cyclists from the front marks, and with 15km to go they burst to the lead. In the race to the finish Bathurst riders McGill and Windsor with help from Nigel Swan took turns attacking the group, till Mark Windsor and Dubbo's Graeme Peadon broke clear and settled down to fight it out. Windsor did get a small gap over the hill, but a determined Peadon hung on and then was too fast in the sprint to the line, to take a good win. Darryl Wheeler lead the rest of the group in for 3rd just in front of the Back markers who flew home in the later stages of the race, to finish just behind the place-getters. Dean Windsor recording fastest time for the event in front of Bathurst team mate Kane Brennan, giving the 16 year old a big lead in the Backmarker championship which he is attempting to win for the second year in a row. IPC World Champ Toireasa Ryan was the first female home, however Jasmyne Taunton's 2nd placing in the category was enough to retain her lead in the Champion female Pointscore. Hanna Lee rode past Rosemary Hasting to take third in the category in the round.
