Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Hobart Wheelers Summer CriteriumsRokeby, December 15, 2003By Simon van der Aa A bigger field turned out this week for the second of the Hobart Wheelers Summer Criteriums, including a couple of new faces. Clear skies, high temperatures (for Tasmania!) and a medium breeze faced the riders as they set out on their 45 min plus 3 laps journey. The race was set off under control for the first 10 laps to give the new starters a feel of what bunch racing is like, then the hammer went down. Immediately there was a split, with the race then being run in two groups. After last week, no-one in the front group was allowed to get away. There were repeated attacks, all of which were eventually brought back. Steve Rossendell, Jason Johnson and Steve Price were particularly animated, which bodes well for the upcoming track season. Somehow though the group always managed to keep on truckin' to bring them back (the attackers may have slowed down at some point, which helped but is dangerous on such a short track!). Finally it came down to six, with Chris Wilding leading out early to take the win over Steve Rossendell and Jason Johnson. The three primes were won by the same three riders. In the B-Grade group, Sam Jesney was the clear leader for the entire race to take the money there. Again, thanks to Tasmania Police for the use of the centre.
