John Eshman, Angelo Ylia and Aileen Pelly set off first to complete their five-laps, enjoying a one minute advantage over Gordon Lawton, Graham Butt and Megan Taylor. Leaving at three minutes for six laps of the 7.5km course, Bob Pankhurst, Peter Weston, Amanda Steele and Peter Evans were the favourites for a major placing. Fresh from their collective victories in last weekend's racing, Josh Steele, Lee Stevens and Craig Ward could only look on as they were lapped by their competitors before starting at 19 minutes to complete six laps. Butt pulled away from his one minute grouping on the second lap, remaining out of reach despite the group's repeated efforts to reign him in. Pankhurst, Weston and Evans set a blistering pace from the outset, collecting Eshman, Ylia and Pelly mid-way through the race and managed to keep the A-Grade riders in sight for one lap. Ward and Stevens maintained a 36km/hr average speed on the undulating course, forcing Steele to recover at the back of the group as they cut through the headwind along Cooltong Avenue. Despite their collective fire-power, Pankhurst's group was unable to reach Butt before the finish line and in an exciting dash for second place, Pankhurst narrowly edged out the in-form Evans who claimed third. It was another close contest between A-Grade for the fastest time placing. Ward surged at 200m to go and claimed his second fastest time title of the season so far.
