Tesar fulfills dream, wins stage in his last Peace Race

Lubor Tesar of Wiesenhof-Akud took advantage of the last Peace Race in his career to win the seventh stage Friday. The Czech rider, who will retire at the end of the season, said, "So many people stood on the streets in the Czech Republic, that I simply had to win a stage to thank them." Barloworld's Gianpaolo Cheula retained the leader's jersey.
The stage, which ran through Germany from Delitzsch to Thale, was marked by bad weather, including rain and storm-strength winds. A breakaway group braved the storm and, since none of them were a threat to the GC, were allowed to build up to a 12 minute lead. Tesar took the win 2 seconds ahead of Karl Menzies (Health Net) and 17 seconds ahead of Simone Cadamuro (Milram).
Saturday's eighth and final stage runs from Wernigerode to Hannover for 132 km over an overwhelmingly flat course.
