Not surprisingly, the riders did not bring the kettle to the boil in the afternoon pursuit on this the penultimate day of the revived Copenhagen six days. The Slovaks Zabka and Liska, in the orange number three jersey, eventually took the win after a close sprint finish.
No cards had been revealed before the second pursuit of the day. But apparently, the Danes Sandstød and Madsen had an ace in the hole. They won the pursuit in impressive fashion, gaining the lap they trailed at the start of today's racing. Everything was open before the big showdown in the last pursuit that would settle which pair could look forward to being in the lead before the final day of the event.
The serious contenders for the laurels in the Copenhagen six days were all square for the night going in to the last 30 minutes of Tuesday's action. Nothing was settled as the big guns from pairs, six, seven and ten dominated the action, with the pairs five, two and twelve always close behind. As expected, the pursuit went down to the wire, with the crowd on their feet. Eventually the Danish veteran Rolf Sørensen and his Italian partner Silvio Martinello in pair number five won the pursuit.
