Road Day 3 - September 30: Women's Individual Time Trial, 31.2 km

A beautiful day to greet the competitors in Sydney for the final day of competition - the individual time trials. There is little wind at the moment, and the temperature is around 18 degrees, with a maximum of 26 predicted.

The first of the 24 women who set off today was Great Britain's Ceris Gilfillan, a very promising young rider. She is followed by Teodora Ruano (Spa), Solrun Flataas (Nor), Olga Slioussareva (Rus), and Karen Kurreck (USA).

Gilfillan goes through the first time check at 7.5 kilometres in 10.58, the quickest time to date, with Flatas second at 0.5 seconds, and Ruano third at 17 seconds.

Tracey Gaudry is riding up Darley road at the moment.

Ceris Gilfillan (GBr) has the quickest time at the end of the first lap, at 22.07 (42.32 km/h). Still no updates on Tracey Gaudry.

As the second wave starts with Mirjam Melchers (Ned), followed by Judith Arndt and Diana Ziliute. Quickest so far is Cathy Marsal (Fra) with a time of 44.27, but she will be overtaken by Canadian Bronze medallist in Atlanta, Clara Hughes.

The fastest is still Clara Hughes, but the second wave are really smoking. Joane Somarriba has gone through the first check in 10.28(!). All riders have left now.

Leontien Van Moorsel has come through the first lap in 20.46, the quickest time to date. At the moment, Mari Holden (USA) is about 30 seconds behind her, closely followed by Anna Wilson. Hanka Kupfernagel and Zulfia Zabirova are not having good rides.

The wind has dropped completely.

1052 ESST

Leontien Van Moorsel catches Hanka Kupfernagel towards the finish, and the two swap the lead for a while, before the Dutchwoman outsprints her to cross in 42 minutes flat (44.57 km/h). In second place is the USA's Mari Holden - an excellent ride after her bad showing in the road race. Coming in third, at 52 seconds is French veteran, Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli. Fourth, once again is Anna Wilson.
