Olympic selection news for July 27
Italian Men's Road Team
Italian coach Antonio Fusi has selected his team for the road in Sydney: Marco Pantani, Michele Bartoli, Paolo Bettini, Danilo di Luca and Francesco Casagrande.
Pantani wasn't on the list before, because of his sporting fraud case, but after his two stage wins in the Tour, Fusi decided to put Pantani in the team.
Complete Canadian Olympic team
After the various national titles that were held this month, the entire Canadian Olympic team has been finalised. 14 athletes have been selected across the three disciplines: just two women for the track, four men and three women for the road, and three women and two men for the mountain bike squads respectively.
Dutch Track Team
Peter Pieters has announced his nominations for the Dutch track team for Sydney, following the Dutch track championships held last week. Leontien van Moorsel will probably ride two races in Sydney: the pursuit and the points race. Pieters said that "She is so strong that I've nominated her for the points race too."
Team pursuit: Wilco
Zuijderwijk, John den Braber, Peter Schep and Jens Mouris (or Robert Slippens)
Another note on the championships: Teun Mulder, the new Dutch omnium champion won the sprint, the flying 200m, and the keirin. However in the last race that he won (the keirin) he was riding with a broken collarbone.
Austrian Road Team
The five man Austrian selection (road) for the Sydney Olympics is as follows: Matthias Buxhofer (Phonak Hearing Systems), Gerit Glomser (Panaria-Gaerne), Georg Totschnig (Telekom), Peter Wrohlich (Gerolsteiner), Rene Haselbacher (Gerolsteiner).
