Tour of Tasmania - 2.5Australia, August 30 - September 3, 2000Main Page Results Previous stage Stage 4 - September 2: Hobart - Mt Wellington, 108 kmChadwick moves into the leadQueenslander, Glenn Chadwick scored an impressive win in the King Stage of the Tour of Tasmania and moved into the overall lead in the process. Chadwick won the 108 km leg from Hobart to Mt Wellington, with its final 12 kilometres all uphill. He beat Russian Vladimir Karpets and Robert Tighello as the field splintered on the climb. The race began with a customary early break: this time it was Peter Milostic (Tasmania International) who was joined by Steve Cunningham (Cafe Pesano), Gareth Atkins (Nortas) and Trent Perry (New Zealand). These four were away for the majority of the stage, only being caught with 21 kilometres to go. The final climb up Mt Wellington saw a lead group of eight at the bottom, which was gradually reduced as the road went up. Glenn Chadwick (Peugeot-Berri Ltd) attacked within the final 5 kilometres and was not seen again. Tighello and Karpets deuled for second place, with the Russian eventually coming through after an impressive fight. Tomorrow's final criterium should be quite straightforward for Chadwick to hold his overall 18 second lead.
