Six Days of ZurichSwitzerland, November 29 - December 4, 1999 |

list
By Tomas Nilsson The oval in Zürich is 250 meters long which gives room for more riders, 17 pairs, and also makes it harder to gain a lap. Home crowd favorites Bruno Risi and Kurt Betschart, who have won five times in Zürich, had a seemingly weak performance at Gent. However, if Betschart has recovered from his "sitting problems" the pair is definitely among the favorites - after all they won the season's debut in Dortmund, while in Munich they were second after "sleeping" in the final chase. Silvio Martinello and Andreas Kappes not only came up on the same lap but also managed to gain one in Munich. Race manager Urs Freuler has managed to put some interesting pairs against his compatriots. Gent winner Scott McGrory will ride with ex-compatriot Matt Gilmore while the other winner from Gent, Jimmi Madsen will ride with Kappes. Italian dream team Martinello and Adriano Baffi are now back with "ordinary" mates. Baffi will once again ride with Andrea Collinelli, the winning combination in Grenoble, while Martinello is paired with old mate Marco Villa for the first time this season. Due to illness Etienne de Wilde's partner, Michael Sandstød (Den) was replaced by Tayeb Braikia, leaving Swiss Franco Marvulli out of the race, thus it was reduced to 16 pairs. There will also be a sprinter's competition with German Keirin World Champion Jens Fiedler, his compatriot Jan van Eijden and among others the Swiss riders Patrick Merk and Claudio Treig. The Swiss road stars will also have a four day derny competition from Tuesday to Friday with Oscar Camenzind, Alex Zülle, Roland and Armin Meier, Markus and Beat Zberg, Rolf Järmann, Niki Aebersold and Pascal Richard in the field. It should be an action packed few days of racing!
