Night 2 - November 30th

Reported by Ernst Bretscher

In the main race on the second night, the 50km Madison ended with three teams one lap ahead of another three teams. Kappes/Madsen won the final Sprint and the flowers ahead of Martinello/Villa and Gilmore/McGrory.

The first night leaders of Risi/Betschart lost three places to go one lap behind, with Kappes/Madsen taking the overall lead ahead of the three teams with fewer points. In the second part of the night (which ended at 1am) the three teams passed the limit of more than 100 points, but not Risi/Betschart.

The classification shows after the second night Madsen/Kappes, Martinello/Villa and Gilmore/Mc Grory one lap ahead of Risi/Betschart. But most probably all will change on Wednesday evening, when the 100-minute Madison will give a better indication of the likely outcome.

The Derny Race - with nine of the best Swiss road champions entered - was a popular event on the second night, with the crowd of 4000 treated to a close local win to Markus Zberg as all nine riders finished within 150 metres.

In the Sprint William Peden won on the second night the 250 m time-trial in 13.52 seconds ahead of Jens Fiedler (13.56) and Swiss rider Patrik Merk (13.62). After two sprints (won by Treig and Kiksis) and a Keirin-race (Winner Fiedler) Fiedler is the overall leader after the first night.

In the amateur race the victory went to the Belgian team and last year's champions Vermeersch/De Duytsche, who won ahead of the Slovakian team of Liska/Zabka, who remain in the overall lead.
