Night 3 - December 1stAs reported by Ernst Bretscher The highlight of the third night, Wednesday evening (the night ended at 02.00 a.m. on Thursday-morning) was the 100 minutes Madison-race, which was held for the 44th time since 1956. 4,200 spectators saw in the second longest Zürich-Madison-race, the very clear domination of the team of 34 year-old Kappes and his partner, the 4 years younger Madsen. They took the lead 34 minutes before the end and were one lap ahead of all main opponents. Twice, the other teams managed to come on the same lap, but Madsen/Kappes always countered and were one lap in front with 13 minutes to go. At this point Baffi/Colinelli and De Wilde/Braikia attacked, and three teams went to the final three deciding sprints on the same lap. But the German Kappes showed his clear superiority, and won all sprints. So the German/Danish team won, as they had the day before in the 50 km-Madison. The Swiss pair Risi/Betschart attacked several times, and now had the chance to join the leading group. With their second win Kappes/Madsen extended their lead, and are now one lap ahead of four pairs. The distance covered was 88.750 kms at an average of 53.251 kph. This was the third fastest 100-minutes-race in the races history. Last year Risi/Betschart won with a fantastic new track-record of 90.270 km. Courtesy of Pascal Meisser 1.
