Quiet Little Ride
Tasmania, November 4, 2006
Launceston's Ben Mather left no doubt about who the fastest rider in the QLR was with a sizzling time of 2 hours 34 minutes and 41 seconds. With perfect riding conditions of blue skies and a dry, hard track, Mather led the 166 rider field from the start of the 65km event on Tasmania's east coast. Canberra rider Scott Wines tried to stay in touch with Mather but was dropped near the top of the climb to Snow Hill at about the 15km mark. From this point Mather continued to build his lead and arrived at the finish a full 12 minutes ahead. Richard Wilkinson took out a respectable third place in 2:48:16.
The women's event was keenly contested, but eventually taken out by veteran Eleanor Patterson in a time of 3:20:10. Rowena Fry arrived in 3:24:16 to take second place, with Sophie Marshal taking third in 3:35:09.
