The first rock he hit dislocated his left shoulder, the second one popped it back into place and without a shrug, Minaar crossed the finish line in first place to collect the win for the men's pro downhill. “The race started off pretty good,” said Minaar. “I was quite smooth at the top and carried good speed. I was on the lines that I wanted to be on but down the middle I was a bit slow in the speed section. I made mistakes on the fast corners where I was braked too much and I took it too easy. By the bottom I was trying to make up time and that's where my shoulder came out because I was trying to get through as fast I can and I was trying to pump the bike through the rocks when my shoulder came out.” A surprised Minaar, who usually wears a shoulder brace but left it behind this time, confessed that something like this has never happened before. Thanks to a couple well-spaced rocks on the revised Mount Snow course, Minaar was able to perform his own first aid plus take home first place. Crazy. Fast Frenchwoman, Sabrina Jonnier (Monster Energy/Iron Horse), recovered from a disappointing qualifying round earlier today to ride a perfect race and win a trip to the top of the podium. Course conditions from the qualifying round to the finals changed from damp and slow to dry and fast, even dangerous. Jonnier picked her lines carefully on her final run and gained momentum as a result of her wise decisions. “From the first turn, my line was perfect and I was coming down way faster than I was in practice,” said Jonnier. “I wasn't scared at all! Every single line I wanted to do, I just made them so that was good.” Jonnier, who crashed last week and still managed to place second at the NORBA event in North Carolina, prevailed over a formidable field today that included young Aussie phenom, Tracey Hannah (Edge Cycles), Kathy Pruitt (Jamis), last year's Mount Snow downhill winner, Bernardita Pizarro (Bear Naked).
