Klein clocked 2 min 58.6 seconds in his final run to take out his first win of the Maxxis Sunshine Series Downhill Series. Klein's win has given him the Overall Series Winner title. In the previous three rounds Klein had finished second twice and fourth. "I'm happy I won today. It's the first," explained Klein. "I focused more on this race than the others." Second in the final round and second overall was Jay Lindsay from DAguilar in North Brisbane with Craig Woodhead from Jamboree Heights third overall after finishing fourth in this round. Klein's series win in just his first year in the senior ranks proves his selection for the World Championships as a junior was not a mistake. In 2003 he held two championships, the Junior National Downhill Championship and the Oceanic Championship. Recently the Toowoomba City Council allocated land in Jubilee Park for the Toowoomba Cycling Club to use to develop a top class cross country and downhill course. This will allow athletes like Klein to train and race closer to home. Klein now plans to prepare for the South East Queensland State Championships on 5 September and he will decide which of the upcoming National Downhill Rounds he will compete in. Cross country riders will compete this Sunday in the Maxxis Age Championships at Gap Creek Reserve. Competition is expected to be fierce in the Elite Men's division with Michael Skroblin from Chapel Hill riding against Sunshine Series winner, Ryan Gittins from Toowoomba. However the pair will line up against Mark Frendo who has just returned from a season of racing in Europe. The women's event will mark the final Australian race for Erica Oldfield from Ipswich who will head overseas to compete in the Junior World Championships in France next month. Racing gets underway at 8.30 am with the Under 13 age group while the Elite Men will start their race at 10.15 am. For more information contact John Forbes at Kenmore Cycles on 33780288.
