Smitty’s Cyclo-Stampede
England-Idlewild Park in Burlington, KY, September 24, 2006
Heavy rain during the previous week turned into crystal clear blue skys for the inagural Smitty’s Cyclo-Stampede, won by Travis Mullen. Due to the condition leading up to the event, the fast course had been reduced to a soft mud bog, but that wasn't enough to stop hundreds of fans turning out to see 85 riders start Pearl Izumi Ohio Valley Cyclocross Series' second round.
A free beginners course run on the morning by Fulcrum Coashing and Darkhorse Racing saw 13 cyclists get their first tast of cyclocross, leading to an increased field of beginners for the event. The series' continues this weekend with a full weekend of racing with Granville 'Cross on Saturday in Columbus, and the Todd Investment Advisors Tour de Louisville on Sunday.
