Chicago Cyclo-cross Cup Racing Series - Race # 4: Montrose Park - Chicago, Illinois Sunday, December 3, 2006
Riders were greeted with a chilly morning low of 9F and an early afternoon high of 23F (-13C and 5C). Despite the 'frigid' temperatures brave cross racers took on a challenging course that saw riders on mountain bikes or cross bikes with select technical tires in order to maneuver through the snow. The course favored the technically strong rider. The hardest section seemed to be the up hill pavement section which saw racers battle a strong headwind then turn into a tight snow path.
Within the course there were several twists and turns on the frozen tundra that forced riders to dismount, run up a short hill, snake through a tunnel and face another short hill followed by a fast section that brought riders back to the start/finish area.
Corie Berrigan (Team Kenda Tire) won the women's 1/2/3 race and David Sachs (Vision Quest) won the Men Pro 1 & 2. Berrigan is no stranger to state championships as she was the women's Wisconsin state 'cross champion in 1998. Both riders took the gold medal for the State of Illinois.
