Wellington Centre Track Cycling ChampionshipsWellington, February 10, 2004Double wins for WongBy Kevin Smith The country's most versatile woman cyclist, Robyn Wong, was a double winner at the Pack and Pedal sponsored Wellington Centre Track Champs. Fresh from wins in mountain biking and road cycling events, Robyn impresively won the women's time trial and distance track races from Sarah Butt and Rachel Smith. Shayne Riches blitzed the field in the senior men's 1 km time trial with a quick time for the Wellington velodrome of 1 min 15.6. In the senior men's distance event, a mid-race move put Jamie Thynne clear of the field. His lead was sufficent to enable him to hold on to win despite riding the last couple of laps on a flat tyre.
