Italian speedster Danilo Di Luca from the Saeco-Longoni Sport Team will be writing a diary for Cyclingnews.com during this year's Vuelta a España. The classy rider has been in excellent form leading into the 2002 Vuelta, with a recent victory in the Giro Del Veneto showing he has hit Spain's major tour with motivation and speed. With his consistent performances in Italy during August, Di Luca is looking to the Vuelta with confidence. "The Giro del Veneto was my last race before the Vuelta... we've got big plans for the Spanish race. Simoni will be going for the overall and I'm looking for stage wins."

Stage 7 - September 13: Jaen - Malaga, 196.8 km

Fast, tough, and hot!

Hello everybody!

Today the heat won the stage! The sun was incredible, it was hot enough to crack stones... today's stage can be summed up in three words: fast, tough, and hot!

The sprinters' teams did a good job of controlling the escape of Mariano Piccoli and the others, followed by the usual fast finish by Cipollini's men, who did a perfect job at the end and then Mario took care of the rest!

Our Saeco team obtained two good placings in the top ten with Glomser (his second top ten finish after his third place the other day) and with Fabio Sacchi. Tomorrow we hope that the stage can give the spectators some beautiful emotion...

Talk to you soon,

Danilo Di Luca
