Northern Veterans Cycling Club
Longford, Tasmania, April 17, 2005
The Calvary Health Northern Vets held their weekly club race at Longford on Sunday. The Group Handicap had 43 starters with another great ride by the backmarkers. After Michael Wilson's strong ride last week, this week it was TIS Coach and National Time Trial Champion John Gregory's turn to put in an outstanding performance.
Gregory and his brother-in-law Dale Woolston had the bunch well strung out with speeds around the 45km/h mark. With 5km to go Gregory attacked the remaining dozen riders to score a very strong win by about 30 seconds. Paul Turner put in a top sprint to lead home the rest of the field. Other notable rides this week were put in by John Carter and Michelle Dabner. Next week's racing will be at Carrick, meeting at the Carrick Hall, with racing starting at 10am and entries closing at 9 45am. The race will be over 40km in all grades.
Duty members are Robin Jackson and Paul Turner.
