B2B Classic weekend of Cycling - Bathurst, NSW, March 25-26, 2006

State officials have praised the organiser's of the B2B classic weekend of cycling with hundreds of cyclists taking on the challenge. Starting at Blayney and finishing in Bathurst, the world's best endurance wheelchair athlete Kurt Furnley and paralympians Lindy Hou and pilot Toireasa Gallagher exemplified the personal drive required to complete the mighty challenge which climaxed with the finish on the iconic Mt Pamorama Motor racing Circuit.
Plenty of prizemoney ensured good fields for the weekend of cycling, which consisted of three separate events. The 2006 Hill Climb Championship opened proceedings, followed by NSW Cycling Open Criterium event, with the big B2B Cyclo Sportiff on the Sunday.

Fastest time in the B2B was an exciting battle, with Velo Canberra Team looking to get their climber Michael Tolhurst in a good position for the tough finish. The plan looked to be working well when Tolhurst took the King of the Mountain sprint on Rockley Mount, however with his team tiring he was left vulnerable in the finishing stages against the Continental teams of FRF Caravello and Drapac Porsche, along with the strong domestically-sponsored individual riders.
With Dean Windsor (Drapac Porsche) attacking Tollhurst, Civic Cycles Glen Stojanow and Aaron Little (FRF Caravello) countered to get clear before Mt Panorama. Windsor attacked across the Hilltop finish but was unable to catch the classy Stojanow who took the fastest time money. Windsor (Drapac Porsche) hung on for second and Little (FRF Caravello) third from team mate Brenden Jones and NSWIS rider Mitch Chapman.

The womens category was taken out by Velo Canberra's Judith May putting in a great display of climbing to defeat pre race favourite Amanda Spratt of the Australian Institute of Sport. Tamworth Junior Emma Sonerson (1st U19 Women) was 3rd overall infront Wagga's Jess Hume (2nd U19 W) and the amazing Jess Ridder (Blackheath) who got the bike out of the shed after a year out of cycling to take a category placing and 5th overall in the Womens Division.
Category winners included Darren Cash (Sutherland) in the Masters, and newly crowned NSW Masters champion Bruce Goddard in the Masters 50+ category, Ben Dyball in the U19's Mens, Julie Graham (Peloton sports) in the Women Masters.
Short course was great battle between State Junior Representatives Tim Guy (Orange) and Blair Windsor of Bathurst. NSW U19 Hill climb champion Guy finishing first 1 second infront of Windsor and Canberra's Heath Wade in third. Short course category winners included Gail Johnson in the Women, Matt Anderson in the junior Mens, and Oranges Marty Guy in the Masters Mens Category.
The Major Draw Prize of a trip to New Zealand Lake Taupo Challenge went to Lidcombe junior Matt Anderson who finish 4th overall in the Short Course. More news on the weekend including full B2b results and Hill Climb and Criterium details to follow.
