Furmston, who won the West Tamar road race last year, started in the strong B grade bunch for the 70km handicap which caught the C grade bunch, and held off the scratchmen, to take the win. The race was run from Bridport to Tomahawk and back, on a challenging course for riders. Furmston broke away from the leading group of ten riders on the approach to Bridport and held the chasers off to win solo by over a minute. Devonport's John Rayner won the bunch sprint to take second, holding off Micheal Gargonini. Jarrod Harmon rode well to defeat Wes Sulzberger and be the first A grade rider home.
