Sparrow Hill Long Course, ACT, February 6, 2005
The sixth race of the CORC XC series was held at Sparrow Hill in the ACT, with 170 riders turning out to check out the new extensive single track course that has been built over the last six months, making it the largest round of the series so far.
With only about 400 metres of fire trail in the whole course, overtaking moves had to be made on the single track, testing rider skill to the limits. In the Senior Men, Brent Miller (Intense Pro Team) and Shane Paton (Kona-Mt Buller) fought out a close battle over 25km. Shane led out early but Brent came home to win by 34 seconds.
Australian MTBO team mates Belinda Allison and Julie Quinn tool out a 1-2 in the Senior Women, with the win cementing Belinda's first place in the XC series. With the effort and resources that CORC has recently put into junior development, it was great to see a total of 27 riders under 17 turn out to tray their hand at XC, with some in the Under 7 class getting a taste on a shortened course.
