Frendo returned to local racing in Round 4 of the Maxxis Sunshine Series at Mt Cotton on Sunday. Current series leader, Ryan Gittins from Toowoomba stayed with Frendo for three of the five laps to finish second but Gittins still retains the Series lead. The absence of nearest challenger; Michael Skroblin gives Gittins a comfortable Series lead of 275 points with Skroblin still holding onto second with 208 points just 2 points in front of Regan Jefcoate in third. Erica Oldfield won the Expert Women’s event in 1.32 keeping clear of Gold Coast’s Sharon Heap by 1 minute 44 seconds securing her Series lead. Lee Schultz placed third but still maintains her second place in the Series with Heap in third overall. A quick start in the Masters A Division saw Robbie Gould lead for the first lap until National Junior Downhill Coach, Scott Sharples took the lead in the second lap winning by 2.21 minutes. Sharples scored 80 points for the win however it was his only round in the Series which leaves Gould 40 points clear of Alan Mumford in second and Darren Mimica maintains his third place in the Series. Sixteen year old James Maltman won the U/19 division beating Gold Coast’s David Whitney by over 4 minutes but is still 20 points behind Whitney who keeps the Series lead. Daniel Hallam from the Gold Coast won the U/17 division and remains leader of the Series. In the U/15 division the Series lead remains unchanged after this round with Daniel Peach first, followed by Gold Coaster’s Sean Dalton and Luke Scudamore respectively. Another Gold Coast Junior, Ryan MacAnally continues his dominance in U/13 and in U/11 Ben Forbes stays in the lead. Riders will ride in the 12 hour Team Challenge at Kooralbyn on 31 July before lining up for the final round in the Maxxis Sunshine Series at Ipswich on 8 August.
