PNP CC Track RacingWellington Velodrome, November 4, 2003By Kevin Smith Wellington's PNP Cycling Club has held the first organised track meeting at the Wellington Velodrome in over a decade. 30 riders turned out for the inaugural race meet at the recently refurbished 333.3 metre concrete velodrome. It was an encouraging mix of racers that included juniors, vets and seven women. Shane Richies showed the novice trackies how it's done, easily winning both the sprint and the 1000m scratch race. Experienced track rider Sarah Butt was the best of the women. PNP will be racing at the Wellington Velodrome on Tuesday night from November through to February. An invitation is extended to any trackies visiting New Zealand's capital city this summer to try out the velodrome that was once the home of New Zealand's most successful international track cyclist, Harry Kent. Entries are taken on the night with races for both track bikes and road bikes.
