Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
92nd Six Days of Berlin - 6DGermany, January 23-28, 2003Main Page Results Previous Day Day 6 - January 28Risi/Betschart take final Six of the seasonFarewell to Martinello, Baffi, and LapageThe Swiss pair of Bruno Risi and Kurt Betschart have won the final Six Day race of the winter season, narrowly beating Italians Silvio Martinello and Marco Villa by 5 points. In doing so they denied the retiring Martinello victory in his final Six, bringing to an end his four wins from four starts record in the Berlin Six. Martinello certainly wanted the win, and he and his partner Marco Villa raced hard in the 60 minute madison, managing to lap all the teams save for Risi/Betschart. However the Swiss pair would not give in, and the lead continued to change during the remaining events. In the end, it was the sprints between Risi/Betschart and Martinello/Villa that decided it, with the Swiss coming out on top. Risi and Betschart thus realised their first Berlin Six win, and the first by a Swiss team since 1953. In addition to Martinello, Adriano Baffi and Belgian Lorenzo Lapage ended their long six day careers in Berlin. ResultsProfessionals
