Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
Six Days of Grenoble - 6DFrance, October 31-November 5, 2002Main Page Results Previous Day Next Day Day 5 - November 4Too close to call with one night to goThe Six Days of Grenoble will come right down to the final night, with the top two teams currently tied on points and laps. Swiss pair Franco Marvulli/Alexander Aeschbach saw their slender lead evaporate on night 5 as Italians Adriano Baffi/Marco Villa rode consistently well to close the gap. Both teams are now on 290 points, with French pair of Robert Sassone/Jean Michel Tessier in third place on 210 points, and one lap down. The fourth best team, still in with a faint hope of victory, is the South African duo of Robert Hunter/Jean Pierre van Zyl. They have amassed the most points (346) but are currently two laps behind the leaders. That will turn into three laps down when the top teams get a bonus lap for passing 300 points. Marvulli and Aeschbach, winners in Grenoble last year, still have a lot to do in order to take the trophy home this year. Baffi and Villa will also be motivated, with Baffi wanting to win in his last ever Six Day season. In the sprinters' competitions, Australian world champion Jobie Dajka moved into the overall lead after placing second in tonight's keirin behind Jens Fiedler. His compatriot Sean Eadie is leading the Sprint Master Buckler competition after he too gained a second place tonight behind Arnaud Tournant. However Tournant is the clear leader in the Golden Sprint competition with one night to go. In the espoirs, Mickael Bourgain sits on top of the standings after being very consistent throughout the past five days of racing. In the women's competition after three nights, Aude Pollet (Chambery) is ahead of Margaux Lejeune (Merignac) by 10 points. Finally, the juniors competition Yannick Ferrier (Saint Etienne), Mathieu Rey (Vienne), and Benoit Laurencot (Besancon) are the top three, but are separated by a solitary point.
