39th Six Days of Munich - 6DGermany, November 7-12, 2002Main Page Results Previous Stage Day 6 - November 12Last minute triumph for McGrory/GilmoreThe 39th Six Days of Munich was decided in thrilling fashion in the last five minutes of the final madison, when Scott McGrory/Matthew Gilmore took a lap out of the field to move in front of leaders Risi/Betschart. Matthew Gilmore attacked so strongly that no-one could follow, and the lap he gained with McGrory meant that Risi/Betschart's points advantage was nullified. Finishing in third place overall were Germans Andreas Kappes/Andreas Beikirch, who ended on the same lap as Risi/Betschart on 297 points. McGrory and Gilmore were given a standing ovation by the big Munich crowd, who have enjoyed six nights of hard and aggressive racing. Although Risi and Betschart looked on target to gain their 30th Six Day win, and thus break the record held by Gustav Kilian and Heinz Vopel, in the end they were foiled by the strength of McGrory and Gilmore. In the sprinter's competition, Jens Fiedler finished on top of the points standings ahead of Australian Sean Eadie, German Rene Wolff and Australian Jobie Dajka. In the amateur Franziskaner Rad Open, German pair Stefan Löffler/Daniel Palicki won with 140 points compared to Leif Lamparter/Sebastian Frey's 126 points and Belgians Iljo Keisse/John Van Den Abeele's 118 points.
