ESCA Meadowbank Track League

Derek Smith (City of Edinburgh RC) took the top honours in the seventh round of the Meadowbank National Track League. A win in the 10 lap scratch together with 2 points in the Course de Primes and 3rd in the 40 lap scratch were enough for Derek to take 7 points for top score on the night.

John Stollery (Robert Grinsell Travel) was not far behind however. Stollery, currently working in Edinburgh, seems to be enjoying the boards at Meadowbank and picked up 6 points with some consistent riding during the evenings events. A 3rd in the opening scratch race, 2nd in the finale 40 lap event together with 2 points in the Course de Primes and intermediary scratch sprints were sufficient to take second place.

Overall second place rider Darren Howitt could not capitalise on the absence of league leader Evan Oliphant, who has returned home to Wick following the completion of his year at University in Edinburgh. Howitt took 4 points on the night to retain his second place overall in the league. David Nisbet (Glasgow Couriers), Martin Lonie (Cyclingscotland) and Graeme Steen (Team Velo Ecosse) also all scored 4 points on the night.

The evening also brought to an end Season A with Evan Oliphant the clear winner with 55 points from Darren Howitt on 35. Season B starts next week with all riders starting again from scratch, albeit their points from Season A carry forward for the overall 2002 league.

In the closely contested Women's competition, Emily Forde (Team Caledonia) moved ahead of Kate Cullen (Edinburgh RC) by 3 points with wins in the 8 lap scratch and 20 lap scratch. Cullen was second in the 8 lap scratch and then capitalised in the Course de Prime event where Forde failed to score, Forde took all of the intermediary sprints in the 20 lap scratch to put some space between the two in the overall league.

In the Youth league, Kevin Barclay (Edinburgh Racers) moved into the lead by 1 point from Lisa Kinroy (Edinburgh RC) following a win in the Devil and second in the 500m dash.
