Edward Dawkings (Cycling Southland) would surely place on the podium.

With numerous premes offered throughout the night,
the women’s field, which grows each week, put on a night of exciting racing.

and Liz Carlson (Verducci) engage in a side by side drag race.

one lap and 333 meters later.

After Gina Grain (Webcor) outsprinted their team-mate
in an earlier event, Verducci riders Jessie Maclean and Kacey Manderfield team up and prepare to pounce. The plan worked as Kacey won the race.

A new face: Australian Michaela Anderson (Budget Forklifts)
wasted no time showing the other racers that she was here to win.

The elite men circle the track at speed during the first few laps
of the 10K (30 laps) final before kicking it into high gear and getting down to business.

Rather than rely on electronic timing, Ben Barczewski (Alliance Environmental)
prefers to take a birds eye view of how close it was.

Never using more energy than required, Bobby Lea (Rite Aid)
keeps just far enough ahead of the competition to rack up the points.

The elite women stay high on the track allowing
the opportunist an open door to drop down and have a go at it.

You had better made your trip to the Breakaway Café
before the start of the elite men’s elimination because with a field of over 35 riders, it turned into one of the longest races and most entertaining events of the night.

Ben Barczewski (Alliance Environmental) sits up
to catch his breath after amazing the crowd with blazing effort to take a preme. Race fans continued to talk about it long into the evening.

2007 Velodrome rider of the year, Peter Fitzpatrick (Team Australia)
finds himself down low in a crowded field during the 30 lap elimination race.

Australian Thomas Richards’s (Budget Forklifts)
aggressive riding style found the eye of the officials. He received two warnings in one race for overtaking on the blue line.

US Open Omnium Championships.

Having lost to Hayden Godfrey (Team Inferno) in March
at the Omnium World Championships, Bobby Lea (Rite Aid) made sure that didn’t happen again on his hometown track. Tonight, Bobby celebrated victory by winning the Valley Preferred Cycling Center’s US Open Omnium Championships.

Liz Carlson (Verducci) hears the preme bell
and launches a “dash for the cash”.

While Liz Carlson’s (Verducci) face shows the effort
of racing flat out for an entire lap, Laura McCaughey’s (Salamander) face displays the joy of taking the preme.

Doug Repacholi (Melville Fremantle) shot out
of the field during the first lap of the 15 lap shootout and quickly gained a commending lead. Despite getting support from every spectator in attendance, his heroic effort was spoiled by a hard charging chase group with two laps to go.

With one rider off the front of the 15 lap shootout,
Haseem Mclean (Southcleane) accelerates to maintain speed.
