Gough adds to medal haul
Napier's Wesley Gough continued his outstanding form this week with victory in the men's points race at the Lion Foundation New Zealand Track Cycling Championships in Invercargill tonight.
The New Zealand team pursuit representative, who medalled in the individual pursuit ride-off yesterday, followed this with an emphatic performance at the ILT Velodrome.
He was always in command in the 30km race, finishing with 39 points followed by fellow pursuiter Marc Ryan (Timaru) with 20 points and Dunedin's Anthony Chapman on 15.
Local star Eddie Dawkins took out the elite men's 1000m time trial final in impressive fashion on his home track. The big teenager clocked 1:03.968 to claim the title, only 2/100ths of a second outside his own national record.
Christchurch's Hayden Godfrey was second with sprint champion Justin Grace (Auckland) third.
Natasha Hansen added the women's 500m time trial to her sprint victory earlier in the week, again out-pointing fellow Cantabrian Jos Rastrick with Otago's Katie Schofield third.
Mid South Canterbury rider Josie Giddens, an Oceania medallist late last year, took out the women's scratch race over 8kms ahead of national representative Cath Cheatley (Wanganui) and Kate Mullarkey (Auckland).
Tomorrow's key events include the women's points race with Cheatley chasing important Olympic qualifying points.
