and rightly so, since he was in the venue, in plain sight, the crowd knew it, the racers knew, even the announcer knew, and the Clerk of the Course knew. The Chief decided anyway to forfeit his ride. Too bad - since he was on the way to an undefeated sweep and win in the 70+ Match Sprint heats.
