Stars and future stars take to the track in Manchester

A packed house enjoyed an excellent night of racing at the Manchester Velodrome on Saturday the 14th October with the new Revolution season opening in style.
In the sprint racing Chris Hoy dominated the evening and took a clean sweep of victories winning the Sprint, Invitation Keirin and Team Sprint. Hoy beat World Champion Theo Bos in the sprint final and the Scot was clearly pleased with his performance, "I was feeling good coming into the evening" commented Hoy. "I’ve been focusing a bit more on my sprinting so I’m really pleased to have taken victory in the Sprint and Keirin".
In the endurance events a few years of retirement clearly took its toll on ex pros Ballerini, Tafi, Sciandri, Sorensen and Martinello as they struggled to keep with the pace of their younger counterparts. Despite the fitness levels the riders delighted the crowds with their efforts particularly in the Four Point Roadman's Pursuit where the competitive spirit was clearly still alive, "I went out too fast" commented Sciandri. "I think I was too eager to catch Rolf and in the last couple of laps I blew up completely. It was a lot of fun though and great to get all of the guys back together". Despite Sciandri’s best efforts it was Tafi who took the victory catching Franco Ballerini in the process.
In the other events up and coming British rider Ross Sander stood out taking victory in the 15km Scratch and the Devil Elimination. Chris Newton took victory in the Points Race and Steven Burke and Adam Blythe won the 1km Madison Time Trial clocking 57.734 seconds and narrowly missing the Revolution record of 57.457 set by Cavendish and Clancy at Revolution 6.
