Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
41st Six Days of Munich - 6DGermany, November 11-16, 2004Main Page Results Previous Day Next Day Day 4 - November 14Slippens and Stam with narrow leadTeam Schladming*, with Dutchmen Robert Slippens and Danny Stam, maintained its lead after the fourth night of the 41st Munich Six Days. The pair have a five point lead over Germans Andreas Kappes/Andreas Beikirch, who are on the same lap as the Dutch. In third and fourth positions, but at two laps down, are Scott McGrory/Matthew Gilmore (190 pts) and Bruno Risi/Kurt Betschart (151 pts). The next two nights will be decisive in determining the overall winners, and last year's champions Risi and Betschart have a lot of work to do to make up the deficit. McGrory and Gilmore, on the other hand, are nearing 200 points and will get a bonus lap once they pass that mark. It's certain that the two leading teams won't give up their advantage without a fight, however. *Schladming is a mountain resort in Austria, but it's sponsoring a team of flatlanders. Night 4 impressionsBy Birke Ulrich As usual on a Sunday, there were not that many people visiting the Six Days this evening. There were a lot of seats available on the tribune and even the infield restaurant was quite empty. But the atmosphere was still alive. The announcer did a good job of explaining the Six Days, the rules and in introducing the athletes. Everybody should know now that René Wolff is the philosopher of the sprinters, since it is one of the announcer's favourite sentences each year. Some of the spectators seemed to be a little bored but the others cheered and enjoyed the evening by watching the races/shows in the infield, or by spending some time in the outfield filling their stomachs. There were a few girls very happy tonight - those who received flowers and even kisses from the winners. It's amazing to see the bikes and equipment. Supporters come to the athlete's area trying to catch a look at it or even an autograph. If you are a girl who asks sprinter Arnaud Tournant for an autograph, you are very likely to get a kiss as well. It's a hard life being a professional cyclist. Usually each rider takes two bikes and two sets of extra wheels to the races. Each team has a little cabin with one bed to lay down and get a massage. Or to have a little nap. The nights are long...
