Two teams in close battle
Marvulli/Aeschbach fall back

The fourth night of racing in Gent's Kuipke saw yet another change in the leadership of the Zesdaagse Van Vlaanderen-Gent as overnight leaders Franco Marvulli/Alexander Aeschbach lost several laps to plummet to sixth place in the standings, after Marvulli became ill and couldn't race. The new leaders are Robert Slippens/Danny Stam on 242 points, who are trailed closely by Matthew Gilmore/Robert Bartko (240 pts) and Bruno Risi/Kurt Betschart (202 pts), all three teams on the same lap.
The all-important Madisons were won by Risi/Betschart, who took the first one with a lap advantage, and Keisse/Beikirch, who won the second one from Gilmore/Bartko and Slippens/Stam. The latter won the team elimination and one lap time trial and kept their heads just in front of Gilmore/Bartko, both teams being very consistent throughout the night.
In the derny and elimination races, it was Iljo Keisse and Steven De Neef who dominated, taking most of the victories between them.
There was another victim of illness besides Franco Marvulli: Rob Hayles did start the fourth night of racing, but finished early as he withdrew due to gastrointestinal problems. He and his partner Jimmy Madsen are 16 laps behind.
